Local Council Introduces Program to Aid Residents in Reducing Energy Costs
A new initiative has been launched by the council to assist residents in cutting down on energy expenses, especially in light of the recent Ofgem price cap increase that will elevate energy bills by five percent, approximately an additional £94 per year for dual fuel households with typical consumption, over the next three months.
The council strongly encourages households to make use of a fresh program that could substantially reduce energy bills during this period.
Leeds City Council has joined other local authorities in allocating £15.5 million to support residents through the Home Upgrade Scheme.
This scheme offers cost-free energy-saving enhancements to homeowners who don’t rely on a gas boiler as their primary central heating system.
Families can obtain more eco-friendly alternatives at a substantial discount or even for free under this initiative. This might involve discounts on air source heat pumps or complimentary electric radiators and insulation.
To qualify for this scheme, households usually need to have an income of £31,000 or less and possess an energy performance certificate (EPC) graded D, E, F, or G.
Those interested in availing themselves of this support can verify their eligibility by using the checker available on the Government’s website.
Applicants will be required to confirm home ownership and whether their primary heating source is a gas boiler. They will also need to input their home address into the eligibility checker.
If eligible, most applicants can expect their local council to reach out within 10 working days to gather more details and schedule a home survey.
Although not all local authorities are currently providing this assistance, Leeds City Council urges residents to seize this opportunity at the earliest.
Councillor Mohammed Rafique, Executive Member for Climate, Energy, Environment, and Green Space at Leeds City Council, strongly encourages residents in the area to take advantage of the scheme to maximize potential savings.
He stated: “Addressing energy waste from our homes brings multiple benefits. It not only aids household finances but also enhances our well-being and contributes positively to the environment. While some homeowners may afford energy-saving measures with the right guidance, many others require additional support to access the advantages of eco-friendly home upgrades.”
